"The learning environment experienced at the School of Education is the one dimension in my three + years of studies which has kept me focussed on completing my studies on time!  As an international student, a day spent in school meant incurring a great amount of money.  Hence, completing a degree, particularly, a PhD on time means having a lot of self-discipline and a good deal of time management from the student.  But when the learning environment is like the one experienced at the School of Education, this student will not only be able to complete his or her studies as scheduled but will learn much more from the process.   The teaching faculty should be commended for their commitment to teaching and their students’ learning.  Most of the supervisors show constant interest and support to their research students throughout their candidature.  In my case, my supervisors had patiently and continuously reviewed my work, followed my progress, and most importantly, provided much encouragement and constructive feedback.  Most of all, the learning environment was a platform for intellectual discussion and exchange of ideas among research students, between teaching staff and students, and between industry, faculty and students in a collegiate manner.

There were a few reasons as to why I chose the University of Adelaide.  One key reason was the reputation of the University.  It is well regarded in Malaysia and Singapore, in fact the SEA region.  Another reason was the lower costs of living compared to cities like Sydney or countries like Britain and the USA.  Lastly, based on word of mouth, Adelaide was recommended as a ‘conducive place for a student’.  It does not have all the ‘bright’ lights and areas of trendy entertainment such as Sydney or Melbourne, but Adelaide city feels like ‘wearing your favourite pair of jeans’.  It feels like home –  a home away from home.  Adelaideans take the time to know you, and involve you in their lives.  Whatever people may say, Adelaide may be a regional city, but it has a mixed of the old and new – each for everyone who would like to make Adelaide their home."
