How to Become a Teacher

  • The Bachelor of Teaching is a double degree pathway to enrol if you are just beginning University studies and you have the motivation to become a teacher.
  • The Graduate Diploma in Education may be your best option if you have already commenced or completed an undergraduate degree.

The teaching qualifications offered by the University of Adelaide are recognised for teacher registration purposes by education departments in all states of Australia and by teacher-employing authorities overseas.

A career in teaching offers many possibilities, both here in Australia and internationally, for students and graduates (or those about to graduate) of arts, economics, languages, mathematics, music, science and social science. and relate well to young people, teaching can be a rewarding and fulfilling career. At present there are opportunities for permanent positions in rural and regional secondary schools in South Australia, particularly demand for teachers in the areas of Mathematics/Science and Senior English, and a strong demand for secondary teachers in other Australian states and overseas - in the USA and UK in particular.
