1: What is my subject area?

Each program has a nominated subject area. For Education it is EDUC.

2: All of the classes I want to enrol in are full, what do I do?

You will need to regularly check Access Adelaide to see if a position within the class has become available. If by the start of Term you have still been unable to enrol in to any classes you will need to contact your Program Administrator.

3: Can I plan my timetable before I enrol?  

Yes, it is recommended that you plan your timetable before you enrol through www.access.adelaide.edu.au using the class planner provided.

4: Do I choose all of my classes? 

Yes, you will be enrolling into all classes for the entire year.  Classes fill quickly, so it is for your own benefit that you enrol for all 4 Terms.

5: How do I change my enrolment?

It is your responsibility to make sure your enrolment is correct. If you have made a mistake and/or need to change your enrolment - for example, dropping or adding a course - you will need to log on to Access Adelaide. Please refer to the following FAQ's:

6: How do I add a course? 

You can add a course in Access Adelaide up until the 'Last day to add Online' which can be found in the Course planner.  If you need to add a course after this date, you will need to get approval from the School to enrol. Please contact your Program Administrator for further details.

7: How do I drop a course? 

You can drop a course at any time online, however you may incur fees and penalties depending on the date. You should take note of the important dates that are outlined in the details of the course within the Course planner.  To drop a course in Access Adelaide:

  1. Select the 'Student Menu > Enrolment'
  2. Select the Term you wish to drop the course from
  3. Select 'Drop' action for the appropriate course - you will be asked to verify the drop
  4. Select 'Yes' - you will be presented with a confirmation screen with a status of 'successfully dropped'

When you drop a course before the census date, it will not appear on your transcript or enrolment list. When you drop a course after the census date, it will still appear on your enrolment list with an 'Enrolment Status' of 'Dropped' with either a grade of WNF or WF recorded and you will still incur the fees for the course.  This grade will also be noted on your Academic Transcript.

8: I've forgotten my password and I can't log in to Access Adelaide.

You will need to complete a Password Request form and lodge it with the Student Centre. Student passwords can not be obtained through your Program Administrators, they come directly from the Student Centre. See Step 1 for more detailed information.

9: What courses do I enrol in? 

You can get specific course advice from your Program Administrator and your Student Handbook.

10: What does 'Invalid Access to Enrolment Transaction' mean when I try to add classes in Access Adelaide?

If you get the 'Invalid Access to Enrolment Transaction' error message when you are trying to add classes in Access Adelaide, it means that the 'Last day to add Online' has passed. You will need to contact your Program Administrator to discuss the enrolment procedure, and you may only attend classes with prior approval.

11: What happens if I enrol late?

Once your program has opened you may enrol at any time. If you have not enrolled by the end of the second week from the start of Term, you will need to contact your Program Administrator for permission to enrol late.  If you enrol late you may find that some classes are already full.

12: What if I have dropped (withdrawn) from a course, but it still shows on Access Adelaide?

If the course is still showing it will be because you have dropped the course after the relevant census date. A result of Withdraw Not Fail or Withdraw Fail will be added to your record automatically depending on when you dropped the course.

13: I need to change the University's record of my name/date of birth. How do I do this?

14 & 15: What does the terminology really mean?

University terms
Program = the whole degree
Courses = individual subjects, usually one semester each

School/Teaching terms
Teaching subjects = the subjects you want to teach
Learning area = part of the curriculum that your subject is included in.

For Example:

To teach History
Your program would be Arts (BA)
Your courses would be in History
Your teaching subject would be History
Your learning area would be Studies of Society and Environment

To teach Chemistry
Your program would be Science (BSc)
Your courses would be in Chemistry
Your teaching subject would be Chemistry
You learning area would be Science

To teach ESL
Your program would be Arts (BA)
Your courses would be in Linguistics
Your teaching subject would be ESL

16. How many teaching subjects do I need to undertake?

In terms of teaching, the levels required in a subject for you to be rated by DECS to teach are:

  • Year 8 = two semesters (ie first year)
  • Year 10 = four semesters (ie second year)
  • Year 12 = six semesters (ie third year)

The subjects that you have studied for six semesters will therefore be the ones that you intend to teach up to Year 12 level.
